“Are you sure, Harper?” he whispered when our lips parted.

He took my hand and tugged me up until I straddled him, my knees setting on either side of his thighs, my middle part nestling right atop his. He cradled my face and looked deep into my eyes. “You know what this means, don’t you?”

It meant we were ready to leave the past behind. It meant we’d admitted our mistakes and forgiven each other for the pain we inflicted. It meant the four of us would live together as a family: Jamie, Mathew, Lyra and I.

“I’m sure,” I said and attacked his shirt buttons.

Once we had only our underwear on, Jamie grabbed my waist and flipped us over. I sighed in bliss at the familiar sensation of the weight of his body on mine. Oh, how I missed it.

Jamie’s hand reached behind my back, unclasping my bra. My breasts spilled out, heavy and tender.

Jamie lowered his head and closed his mouth around my nipple. He sucked it with gentleness and greed, licked and kissed it. Then he moved to the other one.

His touch was familiar and novel at once. A sob escaped my lips, a deep yet shaky sound encompassing the complexity of many conflicted feelings: love, desire, fear, uncertainty, hope.

It’d been so long.

Hooking his fingers in the sides of my plain cotton panties, he slid them down my legs. He glanced at them and smiled. “What happened to those thongs and lacy bras you used to wear?”

“I might need one size bigger now,” I said.

I hadn’t gained lots of weight during pregnancy, but I was at least ten stubborn pounds heavier than the last time Jamie saw me naked. My skin had been spared from extensive stretch marks, but my belly sported a tiny streak line here and there. My breasts were bigger and less perky. It didn’t bother me; I didn’t think too much about the changes the pregnancy left on my body. Until now. Jamie remembered me differently. “Having a baby does change your figure, you know,” I added.

Gaze slipping over my body, he placed his fingers over my lips. “You’re more beautiful than ever.”

With him, I felt just like that.

I trembled, quickly approaching the brink of release as Jamie continued to cherish every inch of me with his hands and lips—my breasts, my belly, the narrow, silvery scars where the tissue had stretched to accommodate the growth of our child, the top of my pubic bone, the tender skin of my inner thighs.

I stilled.

Uttering a low, rumbling groan, Jamie swiped his tongue over my opening, once, twice... and just like that, I fell apart.

Jamie held me tight while the storm was gradually calming down, whispering words I couldn’t hear over the rush of blood in my ears and showering my face, my neck and my collar bone with light kisses.

He avoided touching my most intimate parts, though. Sometimes, after particularly strong orgasms, the soft tissue between my legs became sensitive to the point of pain, and I needed a short break.
